World Series of Poker: A Retrospective

Learn more about the World Series of Poker

On this page are listed other sources of information on both the tournament and Binion's Horseshoe. Some are published books, while others are unique materials available only in UNLV Special Collections.

Resources on the tournament

The best resource for learning more about actual tournament play is the series of videotapes that chronicle each year of the World Series of Poker. Many are available for viewing to researchers at UNLV Special Collections, and many more are available for purchase in Binion's giftshop.

Within the Binion's Horseshoe Collection (collection #91-30 at UNLV Special Collections), there are several unique resources, including:

- Press kits
- Newspaper clippings
- Brochures
- Advertising copy
- Press releases
- Correspondence
- Magazine articles
- Photographs

For a bibliography of writings about the tournament, see The Tournament in Writing.

Resources on Binion's Horseshoe

There are a few online histories of Binion's Horseshoe that can be found through the links page. For original research, the best repository of information is, predictably, UNLV Special Collections. The Binion's Horseshoe collection described above has several original documents that shed light on the casino's history and culture.

The Binion's Promotional and Publicity File has supplemental sources, including more expanded press mateiral.
