The Center for Gaming Research is located on the third floor of UNLV's Lied Library.

As part of Special Collections, it is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9AM to 5PM and Tuesday/Thursday from 9AM to 9PM.

The Center is staffed by director David G. Schwartz and student assistants.

Building Collections
The largest repository of English-language materials on gambling, this is an unparalleled repository of books, journals, and primary materials for gaming research. The Center also maintains casino corporate archives including the Harrah’s Entertainment, MGM Resorts, and Boyd Gaming Corporate Archives, gaming-related manuscript collections such as the Sands, New Frontier, and Binion’s Horseshoe collections, and a growing number of collections obtained under the Problem Gambling Pioneers initiative, which collects and preserves the papers of the pioneers of the problem gambling treatment and advocacy movement.

Making Research Available
Through its website, http://gaming.unlv.edu, the Center makes available information on a variety of gaming jurisdictions; provides corporate histories and research links; hosts several online exhibits, including the online home of the American Gaming Association’s Gaming Hall of Fame; monthly analyses for Nevada gaming revenue statistics; and numerous other statistical reports highlighting several aspects of the gaming industry.

Fostering Scholarship
The Center’s Gaming Fellow program, active since 2007, brings scholars from around the world to Las Vegas to perform research in Special Collections. Fellows use the Center’s resources to further their study of gaming and become ambassadors for the Center and UNLV.

Creating Knowledge
Also through its website, the Center publishes its Occasional Paper Series, which features research from Gaming Fellows, UNLV faculty and students, and others interested in gaming. The Center also hosts the UNLV Gaming Podcast, whose episodes include talks given by fellows, speeches by invited scholars and industry members, and one-on-one interviews with gaming professionals.

Raising Profiles
By hosting public events like the Gaming Research Colloquia, the Center highlights current research into gaming. As a third-party resource, the Center is of invaluable use to the international media searching for objective research and analysis of the past and present of the gaming industry.
