MTR Gaming Group Company Profile

MTR Gaming Group, through subsidiaries, owns and operates the Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort in Chester, West Virginia, which currently encompasses approximately 3,220 slot machines, a year-round thoroughbred racetrack, an upscale hotel with amenities, golf course, fine dining and entertainment, a theater and events center, and a convention center.

Additionally, through subsidiaries, the Company owns and operates Scioto Downs, a harness horse racing facility in Columbus, Ohio; Binion's Gambling Hall & Hotel in Las Vegas; and holds a license to build a new thoroughbred racetrack in Erie, Pennsylvania.

 
MTR Gaming Group History

1988: Company incorporated in Delaware as Secamur Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Buffalo Equities, Inc.

1989: Secamur spun off from Buffalo and merged with Pacific International Industries, a Southern California contract security guard company

1989: After meger, Secamur changes its name to Excalibur Security Services, Inc.

1990: Excalibur becomes a Chapter 11 debtor-in possession

1991: Excalibur sells its security guard divison

1991: Excalibur renamed Excalibur Holding Corporation and reorganizes to acquire gaming and oil and gas businesses

1992: Excalibur acquires Mountaineer racetrack in Chester, West Virgina

1993: Excalibur renamed Winners Entertainment, Inc.

1994: West Virginia Racetrack Video Lottery Act permits opertation of gaming machines at Mountaineer and three other racetracks

1996: Winners Entertainment changes its name to MTR Gaming Group, Inc.

1998: MTR Gaming Group operates only in racing, gaming, and entertainment business

1998: MTR purchases the Cheyenne Hotel & Casino in North Las Vegas and renames it the Ramada Inn and Speedway Casino

1999: Las Vegas-style coin drop slot machines permitted by West Virginia

1999: MTR begins operating the Speakeasy casino and hotel in Reno, Nevada

2001: MTR closes the casino at Speakeasy (Reno)

2002: New hotel adds 258 rooms to Mountaineer's existing 101 rooms

2003: MTR acquires via merger Scioto Downs racetrack

2003: MTR completes sale of its Reno Speakeasy casino

2004: MTR acquire's Binion's Horseshoe casino in downtown Las Vegas from Harrah's Entertainment; Harrah's continues to manage the property for one year

2005: Now managed by MTR, Binion's Horseshoe is renamed Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel (Harrah's retains the Horseshoe name and World Series of Poker)

2008: The The Ramada Inn and Speedway Casino in North Las Vegas, Nevada was sold
