Subject Guides

Arcade/how-to-play
Sure, you can waste time playing free games here, but you can also learn the rules of casino games.

Ask a Question
Ask CGR Director Dave Schwartz a question.

Media cheat sheets

In an effort to help provide media professionals with pertinent information about the industry, CGR director David G. Schwartz, noticing that certain questions come up a great deal, has prepared several "cheat sheets" with quick, easy bits of information. You might find them interesting as well.

Virtual Museum

The Center does not have a real museum--just a few display cases in UNLV Special Collections. But it does have a series of online exhibits that display its unique resources.

Gaming Art Gallery
Featuring anthropomorphic gambling animals, 19th century British moralistic lithographs, inscrutable postcards, and more!

Dino at the Sands
See Dean in action at the Sands in these Special Collections exclusive galleries.

Hotel El Rancho Vegas: The Strip's First Resort
Opened in 1941, this was truly the start of the Strip.  This exhibition is the most complete source of information on the resort on the internet, and the biggest collection of primary source materials on the El Rancho Vegas anywhere.

Paradise Misplaced:
The Xanadu Hotel-Casino
Designed by Martin Stern, Jr., this casino would have redefined the Strip in 1975 but was never built. This was the first CGR online exhibit, and has been recently overhauled.

World Series of Poker: A Retrospective
The history of the world's most prestigious poker tournament and the casino that hosts it.  Currently, this exhibit is being updated, with more photos of the tournament and more information about past tournaments.

Remembering Martin Stern, Jr.
News articles and photos about the career of this casino pioneer--a fitting tribute to an influential architect.

Las Vegas Strip Neon Survey: Sunset to Sahara
The groundbreaking survey of Las Vegas Strip neon conducted by the Neon Museum in the summer of 2002. A must-see for casual and serious neon afficionados.

UNLV Casino Photoarchive
From 2001 to 2005, the CGR website featured a new photo each week.

Casino Carpet Gallery
Sure, it's ugly, but you've got to look. Go to www.dieiscast.com to see the only online gallery dedicated to casino carpet, with images of nearly every Las Vegas casino's floor.

A Centennial Celebration of Gaming in Las Vegas
The exhibit prepared for the 2005 Global Gaming Expo: 100 years of Las Vegas gambling!
