John Ascuaga (b. 1925) is one of the Reno area's most influential casino operators.

In 1955, the Nugget casino opened in Sparks, Nevada, and five years later Ascuaga bought it.

What had been a small casino in a Reno suburb grew, over the next 40 years, into one of the largest resorts in the metropolitan area.
